“September 13, 2021, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) selected “Sea area offshore Isumi City, Chiba Prefecture” as one of promising sea areas for future designation of project target areas under the Act on Promoting the Utilization of Sea Areas for the Development of Marine Renewable Energy Power Generation Facilities.
Shizen Energy is pleased that the Sea area offshore Isumi City has been selected as one of promising sea areas.
Shizen Energy has been conducting a feasibility study of an offshore wind power generation project off the coast of Chiba Prefecture, including Isumi City, and has been in discussions with fishery officials and other stakeholders, since 2017. In 2019, we established “Chiba Offshore Wind Inc.” with Northland Power Inc., a global developer of sustainable infrastructure assets with expertise and experience in offshore wind development, and our Consortium strengthened further in 2020 with Tokyo Gas Co, Ltd, Japan’s largest provider of city gas with a proven track record of supplying energy to customers mainly in the Tokyo metropolitan area.
In the project in Isumi City, we will not only engage in ongoing discussions, but will also strengthen its efforts to collaborate more closely with local residents and local government officials. One of the ways in which we plan to enhance this cooperation with local stakeholders in Isumi City is to introduce Floating LiDAR technology for measuring offshore wind speed and wind direction, and share the data obtained with local fishery cooperatives.
Shizen Energy will continue focusing on creating renewable energy from offshore wind power generation as one of the concrete ways to make Japan’s greenhouse gas reduction goals feasible.”
